Music Monday-Motley Crue-Home Sweet Home

Hey There! Happy Music Monday! Today I picked Motley Crue’s song Home Sweet Home.

I know it’s an old one but one that started my love for the bad boys of rock n roll, Motley F’kn Crue!!! There is nothing else on this planet that can make me feel like I am still young the way the Crue can. I was actually in 5th grade when Home Sweet Home came out but the Crue has been around since 1981 with two albums prior to Theater of Pain titled Too Fast For Love and Shout at the Devil. These guys had such a great thing going, I wish it never ended. If you are a fan and haven’t seen Motley Crue: The End-Live in Los Angeles yet, you need to do that like NOW.

So let’s go back in time and remember MTV, back when there were more videos than reality bullshit. Remember Dial MTV? That show that was on every night at like 5 o’clock? All day long you could call in and vote for your favorite video and then they would play them back in a countdown format by who had the most votes for that day.

My parents weren’t quite home from work yet so I had control of the tv at that time. All the best videos were out then. It was like Andrea’s sing along hour. LOL! The first time I  remember seeing Motley Crue, it was the Home Sweet Home video. You have to remember at this time Michael Jackson was all the rage and don’t get me wrong, he was a fantastic artist who I respect deeply. But he was family friendly. Heavy metal on the other hand….that was a world all it’s own where parents weren’t invited. (However, today I am a parent and actually took my kids to their first concert which was Kiss and Motley Crue, so times have changed!) This music changed my world forever. It is the music that got you to figure out who you were.

I used to watch this every night and felt what they were saying.  It made me want to see them in concert so bad. At the sweet age of 13, right when 8th grade started, I actually got lucky enough to be a winner on the radio station Z-Rock (back in 87!) to win tickets to their show at Alpine Valley in WI. Hell yeah!!! I can’t believe it! The radio station took my name and address and literally mailed me 2 tickets. They were 6th row!! I was 13 years old living in Illinois with tickets to go see Motley Crue in another state!! WHOA!!!!!

Well my parents weren’t having any of that. They said NO! I can’t believe that one of them wouldn’t go with me. Not even my dad. He liked rock music, wtf? But he was not a fan of Motley Crue. I seriously was freaking out because I HAD TO get to that show. I did not want to live if I could not go. Remember I was a bratty, hormonal teenager. The thought to end my life over it was a little dramatic. I am super glad I quickly shifted gears in my head to find a solution to the problem instead of being a brat.

THANKFULLY, I had an older sister. Two actually, but one that would drive me to Wisconsin if I begged her enough. Oh bullshit. She’s a Gemini and always looking for adventure. She tried to be on the parents side for a second but then realized maybe it could be fun for her too. She must have felt my anguish and being the loving big sister she was, agreed to take me. The parents for some reason thought it would be ok for me to go with her. She was only 19 at the time.

We set off for our adventure and as we drove along the interstate I could not believe this was really happening. It seemed like forever but it was only 94 miles. When we approached the venue it was like nothing I had ever seen before. Cars lined up for miles, all blaring a Crue tune. So much hair and hairspray! So much leather and motorcycles! The last time I saw the Crue there had to be 1000 bikes there if not more and that is no joke. I couldn’t understand why there were ambulances there but now as an adult I know people were OD’ing.  Or had heat stroke. It was a wild scene.

The Crue has always given their fans 100% and beyond when it comes to their live shows. Sound quality, lights, pyro, all of it…..you couldn’t dream a better production. Just watch the Wild Side video and that is exactly what I saw. It was unbelievable. I stood up on my seat and whenever Tommy hit a drum I felt it in my chest. I just love them so much. I think my sister went to get a drink and she came back missing her shoes. LOL!

She had a killer time no doubt. Little did she know she would be my partner in crime at many other shows like RATT for instance. Maybe that’s one for another post! Since then I have probably seen the Crue 10 more times. My sister got her dog Cino the day after a Crue show from my dad.  There are many songs from the Crue that have special memories attached to them. I would not be me if they never existed. When they decided to stop touring, it sucked. Better for them to stop while ahead I guess. I respect their reasons but I still miss them. They are the real deal rock n roll and they are lucky to still be around! Nikki died twice and came back to life. How crazy is that? He lives a sober life now and that is very inspiring in itself. Read The Heroin Diaries if you ever want to catch a glimpse of what he lived through.

Well this weekend, Home Sweet Home popped up in my playlist and it was pretty perfect timing. After searching for almost 4 years, we found our next home. We put an offer out there, it was accepted, and we close on June 15. It’s not the one we were looking at before. Oh no. Divine Intervention stepped in and showed us something better. Let’s just hope all is smooth sailing tomorrow at the inspection and we close without any surprises. Fingers crossed and please keep the good vibes coming!

Here’s the words because you know you’re gonna watch this video and sing along…….Have a great week! XOXO

Home Sweet Home written by Nikki Sixx and Tommy Lee

You know I’m a dreamer

But my heart’s of gold

I had to run away high

So I wouldn’t come home low

Just when things went right

It doesn’t mean they were always wrong

Just take this song and you’ll never feel

Left all alone

Take me to your heart

Feel me in your bones

Just one more night

And I’m comin off this

long and winding road

I’m on my way

I’m on my way

Home sweet home

You know that I’ve seen

Too many romantic dreams

Up in lights, fallin off

The silver screen

My hearts like an open book

For the whole world to read

Sometimes nothing keeps me together

At the seams

I’m on my way

I’m on my way

Home sweet home

Tonight, tonight

I’m on my way

Just set me free

Home sweet home

Home sweet home

Home sweet home

Home sweet home

I’m on my way

I’m on my way

Home sweet home

yeah, yeah

I’m on my way

Just set me free

Home sweet home
